Coogee Beach House is just steps from the beach, so mornings and sunsets there felt special. It’s relaxed and friendly, easy to meet people and feel at home. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, with well-kept common areas. I loved the laid-back feel, whether relaxing or socialising. Great value in a beautiful location. I’d definitely come back to Coogee.
The hostel has a good location, decent common areas, and the potential for a great atmosphere. But my stay in Room 4 completely ruined the experience. The room manager has reportedly been staying at the hostel for around a year, and acts like the room is his private space rather than shared accommodation. Alarms go off loudly between 4am and 5am without being switched off, lights are turned on during the night, he jumps on beds, and dismisses guests who ask for basic respect. It left other guests uncomfortable and unable to rest properly. This doesn’t seem like an isolated complaint, as other reviews mention similar patterns. I’m sharing my own experience in good faith. It’s unfortunate that concerns about Room 4 are sometimes dismissed, because the repeated feedback suggests a real issue that needs attention. The hostel could easily be a 4/5, but while this continues, I can’t recommend staying there. If you book, I strongly suggest asking for any room except Room 4.
The beachside location gives Coogee Beach Hostel real potential, but poor management ruins the experience. The owner has refused to return the key bond after repeated follow-ups, which feels like a scam. Prices are high for what you get, and change from day to day without warning or explanation. The atmosphere could be fun, but there’s little safety or control. People often use drugs, including crack, in the bathrooms, and nothing is done. More disturbing, the Room 4 manager takes photos of girls in the room without consent, like a predator. Guests have complained, but no action has been taken. This place could be amazing with better management and basic respect for guests, but right now I’d avoid the hostel.
The staff were really friendly and showed me around. Coogee beach is right there, so the location is great. I liked having lockers and curtains in the room and on the beds. The showers had good water pressure and temperature, and it was pretty quiet too. Recommended if you want a relaxed break away from the crowds.
The staff were super friendly, and the other guests made for a great mix. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was wonderful. Coogee Beach House is in an amazing spot, just a two-minute walk from the beach, and this was my best stay so far on my Australian adventure. It’s an older property with lovely authentic details, great common areas, and a good-sized kitchen. Had the best time here. In short, Coogee Beach House is as good as it gets. Dee.
