Five Islands Hotel

We ate downstairs at the pub, and the portions were very good. My other half was happy with the boscaiola pasta, while my nachos came with a much better amount of sour cream, guacamole and the rest than the last ones I had in Sydney. Good prices for the bistro and the newly renovated accommodation, so we’ll be back. We’d planned a day trip but were too tired to drive home, and were pleasantly surprised by the recent renovations. The rooms felt fresh, with a whopping great flatscreen. The shared bathroom was nothing like the country pubs we stay in regularly: you lock the door and have the whole bathroom to yourself. It’s better than what I have at home, with a great shower and almost instant hot, strong water.

The room had no hanging space and was a little rough around the edges, but this was inexpensive overnight accommodation. I paid extra for an ensuite, which was well worth it. It got a little noisy after hours with a room facing the car park. Overall, a good experience.

We only needed a cheap overnight stop while travelling through, and would stay again for that. The room was clean, the bed comfy and the shared bathroom worked fine. We didn’t need any extras, so it was quite adequate. Arriving late, at 7:30, was no problem since it’s a pub.

The service was super friendly, the atmosphere relaxed, and the drink specials helped make it good value. The Sunday Roast was far better than we expected, and we’ll come back to try the special menus on other days. The meat changes from week to week. The generous portion had tender pork with rich, flavourful gravy and perfectly crisp crackling. Fresh vegetables were cooked just right, and even the sides, including the apple sauce, were thoughtfully done. It felt like proper comfort food with a little more care than a standard pub roast.
