Heritage Old CIty Hotel

We picked this hotel because we specifically wanted to stay there, so learning at check-in that our room was occupied was really upsetting. Nobody had warned us about any problem with the booking beforehand. They moved us to Xan Hotel, only a few meters away, and charged the same price. The whole thing felt unprofessional, especially since we found out only after arriving. For a stress-free trip, I’d choose somewhere more reliable that respects your reservation and choice of hotel.

The rooms were comfortable, clean, and nicely designed, a relaxing place to come back to after seeing the city. The location is perfect, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful stay.

We ended up leaving for another hotel, though the place three doors down turned out to be gorgeous and helped make up somewhat for the two ruined nights. Our Deluxe reservation was for four nights through Booking.com, and the reviews had been excellent. At check-in they said the room was occupied and put us in a cramped first-floor room that looked like a former storage space. There was no soundproofing, so reception staff sounded as if they were right in the room. We tried using the TV to cover the noise, but it only had Russian Fed channels with people shouting. We switched to soothing music on YouTube on our tablet and managed to sleep. The next day they moved us to what they thought was the room we had booked and gave us a 20 manat discount, haha. The hotel description photo showed a 22 sq. m Deluxe with a balcony and king-size bed. What we got wasn’t Deluxe at all: small and cramped, at most 15 sq. m, with a toilet, leaking shower, short bed, and a balcony in name only. Worst of all, there was just one electrical outlet near the bed for the two of us and our gadgets. There was a TV and kettle across from the bed, but nowhere to plug them in. The front door was so small that we could hear neighbors on the phone or going to the bathroom, and were woken all night. WiFi was terrible too. At checkout the owner kept calculating and recalculating the refund for our two nights. He gave us only 70 manat, saying he had worked out Booking’s commission, though he should have returned 120. Then Booking cancelled my reservation and said we had cancelled everything ourselves, so I couldn’t leave a review there. Of course, Booking didn’t get any commission either. What a “nice” owner. I wish him reverse karma with all my heart.

We had a pleasant four-night stay. For the price, this boutique hotel is very nice, and the staff were attentive.
