Hotel Europe

The central heating kept blowing hot air into the room, and guests couldn’t adjust it. The air conditioning was switched off for winter. I raised the problem with reception several times during my 10 days there, but the two staff members who came only told me it was disabled. I barely slept, and couldn’t wait to leave. The room felt worn, dusty, and neglected, with old, dirty furniture. It looked like it belonged in the 1800s, and not in a charming way. There was no iron, the shower head was so low that at 163 cm I struggled to wash my hair, and the only hair product was a combined shampoo and body wash, with no separate conditioner. Those basics were disappointing for a top rated hotel at premium prices. Reception staff were unwelcoming throughout. They never smiled or even said good morning or goodbye, and that lack of courtesy made things worse. People may rate the place highly for its location, but there are plenty of other hotels in the same area. Location alone doesn’t make up for poor standards. I’ve travelled to over 10 countries, and this was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Nearly 300 euros a night was absolutely not worth it. A very disappointing stay.

Marisa at the spa was so sweet and patient, and took the time to explain the services. Honestly, she’s why I picked Hotel Europe in the first place. The spa has a pool, sauna, steam room, and treatments including massages, facials, and body scrubs, so there’s plenty on offer without leaving the hotel. I extended my stay because I felt so relaxed and at home. When I said the bed in my blue-themed room was too firm, the staff kindly moved me to an orange-themed room with a much softer bed. It felt like heaven. My room was peaceful and quiet, even though the hotel is right in the heart of the city. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with a huge range to choose from, and the waiters were attentive and professional. The staff were very accommodating. I had a wonderful stay and can’t recommend Hotel Europe enough.

The staff added personal touches and made me feel welcome and appreciated. Service was excellent. It’s an upscale property in old town Sarajevo, with easy access to the city and a parking garage beneath the hotel.

The breakfast was very good, and the location works well if you want to explore the old part of town. People were generally very nice, including at reception. But they couldn’t arrange an airport taxi because, apparently, I was “too late.” The third-floor rooms were very basic, and the bathroom wasn’t clean. The AC worked poorly. I could open the window, unlike my colleagues, but noise from the outside AC unit was unbearable. The price list was outdated and incorrect. Watch out for taxi drivers who may try to overcharge you. A driver in a black Mercedes charged 50 KM (25 €) instead of the maximum 20 KM (10 €).
