The junior suite looked over the canal, and our bed was large and comfortable. The shower was strong, there were two sinks, and the toilet was separate. We also really enjoyed having the pool in the afternoons. The location worked very well for the city centre, and we could leave the car in the hotel car park across the canal for a reasonable daily extra charge. We spent five very comfortable nights at Die Swaene. The staff were fabulous, even putting together a little birthday celebration for our dog at breakfast one morning. Lionel, the chef, made us delicious eggs with herbs every morning. The one thing that takes away from the hotel is its faded elegance. It has become a bit too faded and would benefit from some refurbishment. The doors squeaked, and the main room door needed sanding. We had to slam it shut when leaving, which might disturb other guests, especially if the dog needed to go out during the night. I’d definitely recommend it for a romantic city-centre break, with elegance, convenience and great staff.

Those three nights before Christmas were probably among the best travel experiences I’ve had. The staff made me feel at home with such a warm welcome, and I enjoyed every minute. I was sad to leave. The breakfasts were incredibly tasty, the restaurant was luxurious, and even the tableware impressed me. A huge thank you to everyone at the hotel. I’d be glad to come back someday.

The location is excellent and the staff are great, though the hotel feels worn and tatty. We were in room 32; it was fairly quiet, but the heating didn’t work. Breakfast was limited but adequate. You might be better off walking two minutes down the street for something to eat. The pool was 25C and the sauna only around 55C, so it wasn’t very hot. Still, the location was great and I may stay again.

The location is perfect, and it’s super quiet at night, not a sound. The baroque-style place has a great atmosphere, with an excellent pool and sauna. The staff are the best you could hope for. Breakfast could use more variety, especially more cheese.

We really enjoyed the breakfast, pool and sauna, plus the lovely shared area for drinks. It’s a wonderful hotel with top-notch staff. I’d happily go back anytime!
