Hotel 't Bagientje

The stew stayed hot right through dinner in its cast iron pot, and the beer's sweetness came through just right. I tried five beef stews around Brugge, Gent and Brussels, and this was my favourite. The fries were fresh and plentiful, and the bread arrived piping hot, crisp outside and soft inside. It was a bit pricey, but worth every penny.

The fish was a highlight for us: we had the fish soup to start, then salmon and Bouillabaisse, all very good. Portions were generous and everything was cooked well. It's traditional Belgian food, though there isn't a full English menu, so Google Lens Translate came in handy. Evenings tend to fill up, so book online, or come for a more leisurely lunch when it's quieter.

My son and I ate here twice during the trip. The mussels and Flemish beef stew were lovely, and the service was wonderful too. I'd definitely recommend visiting.

The food was good, and the spot at the back by the fountains is nice, with outdoor seating and a good playground for kids. Service made the meal stressful, though. It was unclear who was responsible for what, and staff communication was poor, so different people repeated the same questions and information. When I asked for help, the waitress told us to speak to the other waitress. Drinks and dishes took over an hour to arrive, the starter came with the mains, and some drinks never showed up.
