Hotel Olympia

I’ll come back, but next time I’m bringing my own pillow. The hotel’s pillow was awful, and a pillow is basic for getting some sleep and rest. The hotel is nice, very close to Brugge town center, which you can reach on foot, and also close to the central travel station. Anyway…

The rooms were clean and had a good-sized bed. Breakfast was a plus, and there’s a small bar for when you get back. The location is about 25 minutes from the centre of bruges. The only possible downside is parking. The local car park was free and around 60 meters away, but it can get busy around school times. Enjoy.

The staff were kind and helpful, but there was often only one person covering cooking, cleaning, the bar, and reception. When more than one guest needed something, that person got overwhelmed. We also had trouble with a broken hair dryer. We showed the man at reception a photo of it with a sign saying “this hairdryer is broken, please ask reception for another”. When we asked for a replacement, he said we were using it wrong. Even after we showed him the photo, he insisted we were mistaken. Later he came up to the room and said, “oh it is broken that’s why you can’t use it”. It was the same man who made our tasteless tapas. The hotel is fairly small, quiet in the evenings, and a good walk from the Christmas markets and main town if you like walking. The bar, lounge, and breakfast areas have modern decor. Breakfast choices were limited and the same every day, with dry muffins and a cooked option of sludge, out-of-the-tin sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast. Only the bacon had any taste. The knives were blunt, too. Their evening tapas weren’t very flavorful or nice. I wouldn’t recommend it if you dislike olives, flavorless mini burgers, and acidic tomatoes. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Reception welcomed us warmly and accommodated our early check-in. There was plenty of free parking, and the hotel is only a short walk from Brugge town centre. The building and rooms felt modern and were very clean. We didn’t try the bar, though we assume it has a good atmosphere and plenty of drink choices. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Hotel Olympia and highly recommend it, particularly for couples.
