The location made it easy to get around, and the shared spaces felt cosy and were clean, especially nice when the weather wasn't great. The staff were welcoming too. After checking in, you can come and go whenever you like. Once reception closes, you just need to use a different door. I'd recommend it!

Getting in on arrival was the one real snag. I'd told the staff I needed a late check-in, but when we got there I couldn't reach anyone to let us through. Not everyone can make international calls, so there should be another way to contact staff, especially when they already know when a guest is due. Apart from that, it was a great stay and hardly felt like a hostel. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the city view even included the top of Grand Place’s tower. It was quiet at night. The shower pressure takes a bit of getting used to, though having to deal with it was a little annoying. Breakfast had bread, spreads, cheese, juice, cereal, yogurt and a coffee machine. I did miss a protein option, scrambled eggs would have been perfect. The common areas were pleasant, with a small kitchen, microwave and fridge, plus a luggage locker room for check-in or check-out days, a water fountain and a toilet. I recommend the place. Greetings from Brazil!

I liked how practical this hostel is. It doesn't rely on flashy extras or odd gimmicks, just solid, dependable hospitality. The staff seemed focused on guests' comfort, and everything was impeccably clean. My only small gripe is that the lower bunks could use a bit more headroom. I stayed in a four-bed men's dorm with its own shower. There was plenty of space, and it came with clean sheets, big lockers, reading lights and individual power outlets. Each floor also had a quiet shared area away from the main lounge. Breakfast was decent, and there's a small kitchen for anyone wanting to cook. The dining room serves breakfast. Auberge de Jeunesse Bruegel is thoughtfully laid out and well run, with major train and metro stations just minutes away.

There was cold still water and sparkling water from a dispenser, which was great. The location was handy for getting around, though I felt a little uneasy there at night. The room and bathroom were nice, and the shower worked fine, but you have to keep pressing a button to make the water run. Breakfast was okay, with basic choices. My check-in itself went smoothly, but on two occasions when I returned, people were waiting and getting frustrated because no one was at reception. Sometimes someone was watching videos on their phone, and other times there was a sign saying they'd be back in 10 minutes. I tried the bell, but nobody came. The location and rooms were good. I was a bit concerned there wasn't a duvet cover. I hope the duvet gets washed between guests, since we were told to put the rest of the linen in the laundry basket but not the duvet.

One thing to know is that the lockers take a 1 euro coin along with the key. Overall, things were good, but bed assignments need more structure. Giving everyone a numbered bed instead of leaving it random would make things more secure for guests and easier for reception to manage. I arrived exhausted and found a girl asleep in the bed I'd already made. The receptionist had been friendly when I first arrived, but when I raised this specific problem, he laughed and wouldn't let me speak. I recommend hostels to other travelers, so that response really mattered to me. When something goes wrong, it should be handled politely, since you don't know whether a guest is tired or hungry.
