ibis Brussels City Centre

The hotel is tucked away in a quiet spot, yet the Old centre of Brussels is only about a five-minute walk. If you're lucky, your room may look out onto a beautiful old church. It also turned out to be far better than I expected from a 3 star place: modern, smart, very clean, and staffed by genuinely helpful, friendly people.

The staff were lovely and breakfast was decent, but that wasn't enough to make me want to return. Nobody seemed to be checking breakfast entry, and people were openly saying they hadn't paid while we'd paid in full. The soundproofing was awful. I could hear everything outside the room and every time someone used the bathroom in either room. The rooms are tiny, and the en-suites are even smaller. I'm 6ft4” and couldn't fit in the showers, which aren't even 600x600. The chain window restrictors weren't fastened, something that horrified me as a building inspector. This really feels like it should be an Ibis Budget, not an Ibis. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again.

The team here made a real difference. Two staff members went out of their way to find solutions and saved my best friend’s birthday. The whole team was the best I've come across in the Ibis network, and I'd happily recommend the hotel. It's also a great base at Christmas, with most of the main markets nearby. The hotel is right in the city centre, close to everything and about a five-minute walk from Lines 1 and 5. We had an amazing stay.

The location was superb, but our sleep was uncomfortable because the room was too hot with the windows shut and cold and noisy with them open. The air conditioning wasn't working; reception said that was because it was winter, which made sense. When we asked for a fan, they told us to open the windows. On our first night, we asked the night receptionist for an extra pillow since the room only had two. She said none were available without checking. The next night, the same attendant didn't acknowledge us at all, though we saw her greet other guests, including their pets, very warmly. I don't know whether she had a problem with us as Asians, but the way we were treated felt rude. Please make sure front desk staff are properly trained and coached.
