Hotel Les 5 Ourthes

The place itself was clean and nice, in a beautiful location, but the owner’s attitude put us off. We didn’t have a TV remote in our room, so we asked for one. He angrily said no because they get stolen and told us we hadn’t come to watch TV. He did eventually bring one, but the interaction spoiled the experience. We’d booked dinner too, but when we tried to order, the only choice was trout or nothing. We ended up paying again for something else. Very disappointing. I won’t return while this man owns the hotel.

Five of us arrived in the area that afternoon looking for a meal and stopped at Les Clinq Ourthes. The food was very nice, the service was good, and the staff were friendly. Just watch out for the grumpy old dog hanging around, ha.

The area was lovely, especially the views at dusk and dawn, and the pool was clean. But this was one of the worst rooms I’ve stayed in, which was a shock because my first visit here was great and the room then was excellent. I don’t know what changed. Our small room had a bed beneath a "velux" window. It was warm, so we left the window open while we went out exploring. A huge storm came through and left almost the whole room soaked. I contacted the hotel during the storm; they put towels on the floor, but the pillows and sheets were wet too. They seemed bothered about replacing them, and there were no other rooms available. We had to improvise, and after I insisted a little, they washed only the pillows, which were old and yellow. There were also massive wasps in the room, and I’m quite sure there was a nest. The bathroom was tiny, the shower door was broken, and the bathroom door latch kept falling off. There were no drinks, fridge, boiler, or Wi-Fi in the room.

Thanks for a great weekend. The people were really nice, the homemade food was great, and the rooms were clean. Superb stay, and I’ll definitely come back!
