Byala Beach Resort

We stayed here before in 2015, and it was a completely different experience then. The positive reviews seem to be from that time. Someone else runs the hotel now, and would pass by while we ate, mockingly asking if the food was good. At Hotel Byala, being right by the beach was the only upside. I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone. Cleanliness was awful in the rooms, around the hotel, and at the pool. During our whole 8-day stay, the pool wasn’t cleaned once, and neither were the sunbeds or the ground underneath them. Room cleaning barely happened. They took out the rubbish and sometimes brought toilet paper, if they remembered. There were cobwebs everywhere and dust balls in the corners. Breakfast was the same every day: eggs, cheese, processed cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It tasted like nothing, and the quality was the worst I’ve ever experienced. A security guard even made sure guests didn’t take more than two eggs. There were notices in the room threatening extra charges if we didn’t wash the dishes, but no washing-up liquid was provided. We had to buy our own, and the few dishes there were dirty and not enough to cook with. At checkout they wouldn’t let us leave, saying a towel was missing. It felt like there’s a scheme where something “disappears” from your room if you don’t tip the cleaner, so you have to pay. The place looked so disgusting that I hadn’t even touched their towels. I said it couldn’t be missing, and only then were we allowed to go. The WiFi didn’t work either. They said they’d fix it in two days, but it still didn’t work, and I had to work. This hotel doesn’t even deserve a 3 out of 10. Absolutely not recommended.
