Hotel SPS

We arrived early and asked to check in five hours ahead of time. The staff were very helpful and didn’t charge an extra fee. The room, hotel and location were all excellent.

The loud disco party in the ground floor restaurant went on until 1 a.m., and the bass was strong enough to shake the soft mattress. The room phone didn’t work, so making a complaint meant getting dressed, going downstairs, bending toward a small opening in the glass and raising my voice to reach reception. The bathroom was the main problem in the room. There were visible traces left in the toilet by the previous guest, the towels were dark, stiff and stained, and the main showerhead was broken. It’s hard to see how this is meant to be a four-star hotel. The lobby gives the impression of an office building, and half the rooms are rented to companies. The reception desk is behind a huge pane of glass, like an old train station ticket booth. There are two little holes, around 15 cm across, where guests have to bend down to pass over passports, collect keys and hear things like breakfast hours. Staff and guests have to raise their voices to understand each other. I’m not commenting on the very soft mattress, harsh white lights, the staff’s cold expressions or the hotel’s location, since those depend on personal preference. If you’re okay with the rest of this, it could be a good choice.

Everything was very clean, and the single bed was large and comfortable. My single room was unusually small, though, and its fifth floor windows had bars that made it feel a bit like a deluxe prison cell. The bathroom was a wet room. There are at least two restaurants, but both were closed for dinner. The hotel isn’t near the town center, and there isn’t much close by apart from Plaza Mall’s food court. It’s very inexpensive, so you get what you pay for.

The view from my 16th floor room was great, and the receptionist at check-in was very nice and helpful. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner warmed the room quickly, there were lots of TV channels, and the sewing kit came in handy. Hygiene was generally good, with fresh clean towels and linen, except for one or two problems. There were nail clippings and hairs in the bathroom, which I consider a serious hygiene violation. The WiFi was very weak and slow, and at checkout I had to wait five minutes for the receptionist to finish a call. Very, very good quality for the price.
