Smart Hostel Sofia

The bedrooms were adequate, but the blankets were extremely thin, there was no bedding, and the staff were awkward, unhelpful, and disengaged. Whenever I went out during the day, they kept asking if I was checking out. The rest of the building was disgusting. The kitchen was sticky and smelled awful, with uncovered rotting food in the fridge and no clean space to be found. Bathrooms were the worst, grimy and covered in urine, with a smell that never went away. Even the showers smelled like faeces. Only one person could get hot water at a time. Wouldn't recommend.

Is this hostel still operating? It’s my favourite place in town, but I don’t see it on Booking anymore.

I ended my time in Sofia early so I wouldn’t have to spend another night here. The hostel itself was in horrible condition: filthy kitchen and bathrooms, no room door locks or bed privacy curtains, and broken air conditioning on a 35ºC day. The location and staff were alright, though it isn’t very close to the Metro and the staff seemed a bit disengaged.

A reservation mix-up came up, but the receptionist didn't seem motivated to sort it out or accommodate me. I had to request a refund through the booking platform because the hostel wouldn't take responsibility. The service was horrible, and what I saw around reception also looked unhygienic. Better to pay a little more and sleep somewhere more decent.
