Hostal Tukos La Casa Real

It’s handy for some interesting sights in town, though you’ll need a taxi to get here from the bus station. The hotel sits in old Potosí, around 4,000 meters up and on a small hill, so I was often out of breath. Some rooms have nice views, and the bathrooms are fairly roomy, but the rooms themselves feel basic, with old mattresses and dated decor. The breakfast was the biggest letdown. The food was poor, and the coffee machine hardly ever worked properly. You eat in a small, drafty reception area, which wasn’t comfortable. The reception staff were friendly, but they also had to take care of kitchen duties, which may have affected the quality. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and good heating, and there’s a large covered parking area. It’s centrally located and quiet. My room’s internet was very weak, though, and the bathroom drain smelled awful.

The only small drawback was the short uphill walk from the center. For the price, I thought it was great: the staff were lovely, breakfast was really good, and my private room had plenty of space, heating, and nice furniture to relax in. I don’t really understand the negative review.

Good location, and the room heaters worked really well. The rooms are basic, though, and the showers can be hot only briefly. There was mold, and some staff were friendly while others wouldn’t look up from their phones.
