Pousada Chykós

I stayed from 11/09/2025 to 15/09/2026, and it was the worst experience I’ve had. From the outside the pousada may look nice, but inside it was chaotic. The sheets were torn and moldy, bedding was left on the floor, the furniture was falling apart, and there was no room service. Breakfast was awful, with food being reused for days. On top of that, an employee smoked marijuana all day, leaving an unbearable smell. The price can be misleading, but the lack of cleanliness, organization, and management made the place completely unacceptable.

I was exhausted from my routine and really needed to switch off. Pousada Chykos gave me that chance. It’s very simple but welcoming, and Sr. Antônio and Suely are lovely. There’s no phone signal at the pousada, though lots of places in Barreirinhas have the same issue. The Wi-Fi is there, but we sometimes lost internet, which didn’t bother me. Suely takes care of breakfast: coffee with milk, granola and oats for fruit, bread and cold cuts, cake, and pie. If you have an intolerance or dietary restrictions, bring something of your own. The room has a minibar for chilled food and water. There aren’t many shops nearby, and they close early. This is really a place to rest, so if you want nightlife, stay in the center. It’s 40 minutes from the center, with no public transport around, so you’ll depend on taxis or motorcycle taxis. There’s a river across from the pousada with a few floating restaurants, where you can take a dip between beers. They get busier on weekends, so we chose to buy beer and hang out by the pousada pool instead. It’s small, more for cooling off and enjoying the evening.

The shower was great and the air conditioning cooled the room well. The hotel is simple and doesn’t offer much comfort, but it works fine if you just need somewhere to sleep and don’t plan to spend the day in your room. I chose it because it was much cheaper than the city average. The staff were attentive, and the basic breakfast pleasantly surprised me with a good selection of breads, cakes, and fruit. The distance from the center could be an issue, but it wasn’t for me: delivery was available and even cheaper than eating downtown, or I could return by motorcycle taxi after tours for around R$20.00. A practical, budget-friendly choice.

Terrible. We booked through decolar eight months before our trip, and they canceled both reservations just five days before we were due to arrive. They gave no explanation. I don’t recommend it.
