Pousada santos

I had a non-refundable reservation for today, 13/04. Before check-in, a staff member called to say there was no water and they wouldn’t serve breakfast for just one accommodation. They should have refunded what we paid, but they didn’t.

The location is good, but I lost a tour because there was nobody at reception when I arrived. They made up for it with a complimentary stay. The guys are nice, they just need to communicate better.

The employee who helped us was very helpful, and the location was the best part, though it wasn’t ideal. It was very close to Mercadão, where the smell of fish was strong. There were bigger problems with the stay: a strong sewage odor and a shower that drained poorly, with clogged shower pipes. The pousada needs work on cleaning, bedding and towels, plumbing, paint, flooring, finishings, and the breakfast’s variety and quantity. Breakfast items weren’t replenished. Taking all of that into account, we unfortunately wouldn’t recommend it.

The location is great, but the rooms were dirty, the hygiene was poor, the bedding was low quality, and the walls were thin. The reception was almost always empty. We found several tiny insects and later identified them as young brown-banded cockroaches. Two small ones, about the size of little ants, were on the floor, and a larger one was on the bathroom wall. We wondered if it might be an infestation. The day after I wrote that, we formally complained to reception and asked for the room to be cleaned. Then two more cockroaches appeared, one dead and one crawling up my leg. We asked to change rooms, but the other option was noisy, and staff said they couldn't guarantee it would be cockroach-free or do anything about it. That night we found another cockroach in the bathroom. Six in two days.
