Pousada Companhia do Mar

The leisure area looks lovely and is across the street, but the pool seemed heavily stained, almost dirty. While we were there, I saw the owner cleaning it. The breakfast was mediocre compared with other pousadas on the same avenue. They served sour watermelon, and the owner got angry because my 1-year-and-8-month-old daughter ate cake and left crumbs on the floor. The owner was unfriendly and the atmosphere felt tense. There were only three other occupied rooms besides ours, but he still came across as arrogant, overbearing, and unpleasant. I don’t recommend this place. I’m still furious when I remember the hammering. At 7 a.m. on our last vacation day, someone started banging a hammer on the wall next door for over an hour. It felt as if I wasn’t even paying to be there. We’d booked just one night as an unexpected stop, thankfully. The pousada itself is pretty, but it’s so rustic that it smells bad. The room was VERY small, with a TV that seemed straight out of 1950 and only got Globo. There was just one window, so it got very hot, and there was no fan. The mattress and pillows were moldy from age. The bathroom was so tiny I had to go in facing forward and back out. No comforter was provided, and the air conditioner was extremely noisy. I stayed one night with a child and was cold because I hadn’t brought a blanket.

The strong smell of paint made the place uncomfortable, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The rooms were awful, small and dark, with terrible bathrooms and a mattress so old it was beyond rating. I stayed from Friday to Sunday. Breakfast was advertised from 7:30 to 9:30, but when I came down at 8, there were only leftovers from the previous day and several items were missing. At checkout, I was charged 200 reais, which the owner said was discounted, but he wanted to add another 10% when I paid by card. He was very rude. The two nights weren’t worth 200 reais. There are cozier pousadas on the same street.

I was so disappointed by the stay, and the owner caused me a lot of embarrassment. He charged more than we had agreed, then refused my debit card and said he wanted cash. The pousada also looked nothing like the website, which felt like false advertising. My room was small and stuffy, the mattress was old and hard, the bed was awful, and the dirty shower gave me electric shocks. The leisure area was unusable, with a filthy pool and a place that seemed almost abandoned. I had to pay to spend the day somewhere else. I don’t recommend it to anyone. I left the next day in the rain because staying there was impossible.

I left on the second night and went home because staying there was impossible. The air conditioning didn’t work, and opening the window only let mosquitoes in. The TV got one channel with a terrible picture. Water from the upstairs bathroom leaked onto the sink in my bathroom, and the ceiling was so low I could touch it. Management showed little interest in fixing anything. The owner said he’d send me a credit letter so I could come back another time, but nothing has arrived. The pictures on the website were pure fantasy, nothing like the actual pousada. Complaints were widespread among the guests, and disappointment seemed to be the general mood.
