Hotel Villa Real

The breakfast was decent, though I’ve stayed at similarly priced hotels with more choice. My room was quiet at the back, but if you sleep in, the noise from breakfast preparations may wake you. The rooms aren’t small, and they vary because the hotel is made up of several rooms without a standard layout. In mine, the bathroom was good and had a shower enclosure, with plenty of room for someone 2.2m tall. The shower head was so high, though, I couldn’t adjust it to a cooler setting, so I had to alternate between scalding and cold water. Bring your own soap, too. The hotel is right at the city entrance, which is handy if you’re just passing through, but it’s far from downtown and may not suit a longer stay if you want everything close by. There’s no elevator, and the steep stairs at the entrance can be a major challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The garage is some distance away, and at certain hours overnight you can’t take the car out. In short, it works for a night or two if you’re in good physical health.

The staff made a great impression, always polite, attentive, and ready to help. Breakfast was generous, with fresh, tasty choices, and they also made tapioca and scrambled eggs to order. The hotel was easy to reach and in a peaceful spot. My room was clean, tidy, and comfortable, and I slept really well. I had a great stay and would definitely come back.

Terrible. The room is inside a house and faces the highway, so it’s noisy enough that you can’t hear the TV. There aren’t enough outlets either: if you turn on the fan, you have to unplug the minibar. The bathroom is cramped, has no window, and the toilet has weak water pressure. The room was extremely dirty in the corners. They put a TV lounge right across from it, so on top of the street noise there’s the TV and people talking.
