Hotel Casa Alpina

The simple breakfast was really good, and the house is close to the village of Maringá. By car, the Cachoeiras do Escorrega and Véu da Noiva waterfalls are about 15 minutes away. The house itself is beautiful and rustic, but it needs major work on the roof, floors, and rooms. The bedrooms and beds, and really the whole structure, need renovation. The bathroom has no drain, so after a shower it turns into a lake. The toilet has a pull cord. Only one of the mattresses was in good shape; the others were quite worn. We didn't get a good welcome. Instead of greeting us and showing us around the house and rooms, the host immediately offered us a quad bike tour. The place felt neglected and almost deserted, sometimes even a little haunted, with the house left open and nobody around. There's a hot dog dog on site they call Lobo. It looked strange and lunged at my daughter. I told the host's wife and the host what had happened. Be especially careful if you're bringing children. There are lots of animals around because the property is close to the forest, including frogs, spiders, and caterpillars. When my daughter needed the bathroom, my wife went with her and they found a frog just sitting there. It could have startled someone, so we asked André's wife, the hostess, if she could remove it. She did, but kicked it so brutally hard that we were shocked. We felt awful about the animal and guilty afterward, since we hadn't wanted it hurt, but there was nothing we could do. The house is pretty but poorly cared for. Its main advantages are the price and being near a few places in Mauá.
