The handmade touches are what first caught my attention, from the shell-inlaid reception counter to the wooden turtles, benches, and railings. Andy, a Belgian wood craftsman, made much of it, while Andrea brought in coastal décor from local artisans and gave the rooms their own calm feel. The whole place feels cared for, and even the outside has a warm, authentic look. Pousada Deu Praia sits on a quiet side street in Peroba, away from highway noise and crowds but close enough to walk to the beaches. After traveling widely and living in several countries, I had that immediate “Eureka” feeling when I arrived. It felt like finding a hidden gem on the Coral Coast, as Maragogi is often called, or the Brazilian Caribbean. Andy and Andrea run the family guesthouse with a lot of warmth and attention. Andy often welcomes guests himself, and their story of how a Belgian craftsman met and fell in love with a local Maragogi woman is a lovely one to hear. They make it feel more like staying with friends than strangers. The rooms are spacious, with private bathrooms and balconies, and breakfast is fresh, leisurely, and lovingly prepared. Mornings can feel like a family gathering, with Andy and Andrea sometimes picking up ingredients at local markets. It’s a comfortable, boutique sort of stay without a corporate-chain feel, and I found the value very good. The setting makes it easy to enjoy the area, with long golden beaches, clear blue water, and a relaxed island-like atmosphere. There are beachfront restaurants, beach bars, and food boats serving local dishes at prices that are kind to both your appetite and your wallet. The pousada makes a peaceful base for exploring Peroba and Maragogi, with restful nights and lively evenings nearby. I also felt well looked after. The parking area is lit, and there are discreet security cameras. Andy and Andrea said they have never needed to call the local police, and Maragogi’s tourism infrastructure is growing, including a new regional airport. Compared with other places nearby, this one stands out for its charm, welcome, and value. If you want a quiet seaside stay with thoughtful craftsmanship and genuinely kind hosts, Pousada Deu Praia is a lovely find.
