We wanted somewhere nice, clean, and organized, but this hostel absolutely wasn’t it. The hostel’s rating doesn’t reflect its current state. Management changed recently, and the new team hasn’t maintained the previous standard. It was very hard to find anyone responsible for the place. The site says there’s a 24-hour reception, but when we arrived in Ouro Preto, nobody answered the intercom. The site also advertises breakfast, but they didn’t provide it. They gave us one voucher for a bakery, just enough for a bread roll and coffee, and only for one day. The next day we had to pay ourselves because they didn’t give us another voucher. The hostel was dirty and disorganized. Bathroom bins weren’t emptied, and the bathrooms were regularly filthy. Our friends found a cup of urine in their room. There was a New Year’s Eve party at the hostel that was supposed to end at 4 a.m. At 5:30, the people in charge still couldn’t get the guests to leave, and the shouting went on. I had to go downstairs and ask them to take a firmer approach. Only then was the problem resolved.

The worst experience possible. We found a cup full of urine in the room. That’s a complete lack of hygiene and respect for guests. Don’t be fooled by older reviews from when Hostel Descubra had different management, or by reviews from relatives of the current owners. The listing definitely didn’t match what we found. You book a package and arrive to something entirely different. The site says breakfast is included, but there isn’t any. They provide only one voucher for a bread roll and coffee at a local bakery. We stayed two nights and got just that one voucher. It also claims to have a 24-hour reception, but there was no reception at all, let alone around the clock. We had great difficulty contacting the people in charge. Nobody answered the intercom or phone. The service was awful, if you can even call it service. The listing also mentions a supposed quiet-hours rule after 10 p.m., but it was blatantly ignored. Loud music and noise continued until around 5:30 in the morning, making it impossible to rest. Cleaning was just as lamentable. The shared bathrooms were constantly dirty, and their bins overflowed day after day. Finding that cup of urine in the room was the worst of it. Hostel Descubra was the worst experience possible.

The location is excellent if you want to stay downtown, and the price is very affordable. There’s also a bar right in the hostel, which is a great option, with ice-cold beer and very Minas-style snacks! Congratulations, ladies. It’s such a cozy place, I highly recommend it.

Bruna, Larissa, and Paloma are all lovely, and the hostel has a cozy charm that makes it well worth a stay. Its location is special: from the bar, you’re right across from Museu da Inconfidência, in the heart of Ouro Preto. I recommend it for trips with friends or family.

I really loved the service. Everyone was polite and kind, the bathrooms were clean, breakfast was excellent, and the rooms were pleasant. It’s easy to find, and the price is great. Guests also get discounts at some restaurants in town, and the hostel offers guided sightseeing tours. It’s well worth checking out.
