Girassol Hostel by Katita

The bus station is nearby and the location is perfect. Katita is a lovely, amazing host who makes you feel at home. She’s an inspiration, and I’d happily come back anytime.

The location is very convenient, close to the bus station, market and bakery, with the historic centre easy to reach on foot. The rooms are clean, tidy and roomy, but they get very hot and stuffy. The fan and air conditioning only run at very low power, and the owner doesn’t let guests change the air conditioning settings. The bathrooms are compact, though the shower stall has a curtain and a little more room. The bathroom was generally clean, apart from one badly stained piece of toilet paper, which I think was probably a one-off. I found the owner somewhat hostile and didn’t feel the hospitality mentioned in other reviews. It seems reasonable if you only need a place to sleep.

The hostel is spotless and well organized, right across from the bus station and just a few minutes from the historic centre. Katia welcomed me with so much care and attention, and gave me great advice about getting around and exploring the city. I took most of my trips by van and paid very little. I’d recommend staying here, and I’ll be back many times!

The nine-bed dorm is spectacular, with loads of space. This is a simple hostel, but Katita’s warmth and the location really make it stand out. Ask Katita what’s worth doing and what to avoid, she gives great advice.
