Pousada Solar das Margaridas

The breakfast setup was frustrating. Plates and forks weren’t available, and when we asked, items arrived one at a time, slowly. If something ran out, we could wait about 20 minutes for more. Parking is limited to around four or five cars. The service was also very poor, apart from the girl working in the morning. The woman who was there in the afternoon, probably the owner, seemed to avoid guests once they had paid. One day she had friends over for a party that went on until 1 a.m. The hotel’s current condition doesn’t match the pictures, which may be from when it was first built. There were broken mirrors, damp and cracked walls, doors swollen by moisture that wouldn’t close, and rusty appliances and shower fittings. It didn’t seem like the property was being maintained, even though the price was still expected. We stayed in Paraty for only two nights and spent most of the day out, so the problems didn’t affect us much. Still, for the money, we could have enjoyed our stop a lot more somewhere else. The stay was very bad.

The place looked abandoned, with broken furniture and a neglected front. The pool was so dirty I wouldn’t risk using it, it looked like a swamp where a crocodile might jump out. The mini-fridge was rusty, and the bathroom needed a floor squeegee to clear the water. The air conditioner was poorly placed, so we had to move the bed to feel its cooling.

We spent New Year’s at the inn and liked both the location and the service. I wasn’t happy with how the furniture and air conditioner were arranged in the room, and a lot of light came in. Still, we had a good stay. I’d come back and would recommend it.
