The location worked out really well, with beaches on either side and Salvador’s main sights easy to get to. There are restaurants and bars nearby, it felt safe, and the bus stop is only a five-minute walk away. Keyko, the sweetheart of the Hostel, suggested some lovely outings I’d never have found on my own, and the Hostel organizes tours to places around Salvador that are well worth doing. What made me feel at home, though, was the way everyone treated me. The staff were always helpful, seemed to anticipate my questions, and looked after me especially well when I was a bit ill. After some disappointing hostel stays earlier in my travels, I’d chosen Barra-Guest-Hostel for my last four weeks, and it was the best decision I could have made. The rooms were cleaned every day and had separate bathrooms at a standard I’d only seen in good hotels. Breakfast was generous, too, and I never felt anything was missing. I’ll remember that time and will definitely come back. Leaving Barra-Guest-Hostel felt like leaving home.
