Mercure São Paulo Barra Funda

The reception staff were courteous and helpful, but the room was in poor shape. The sheets were torn or burned, the AC didn’t work properly, and there wasn’t even a bottle of water. There was a coffee maker but no complimentary coffee, and no iron in the room. One liquid soap, the body wash, wasn’t working. When I asked the housekeeper for help, she said they use the same body wash as shampoo, so they basically use one product for both. There were no USB ports in the room...

It’s a decent apartment-style hotel, but I ran into a lot of cleanliness problems. The fold-up beds weren’t comfortable either.

The room was clean and comfortable, with a good shower and AC that worked well. I was surprised to find a Murphy bed, but it was comfortable. Make sure the balcony door is locked, mine wasn't when I arrived. The lobby could use some work, though it was clean, and the people there were helpful and friendly. Not back for them money..

The bed is what really brings the stay down. It’s a small fold-out style bed with a thin foam mattress, and I wake up with back pain every time. I don’t understand why they use it, and it has a big effect on the experience. I hope the move to the Mercure brand leads to real improvements, especially to the bed, instead of just new shampoo labels. The hotel recently changed its brand to Mercure Barra Funda, after being an Adagio. It’s a simple, functional place with acceptable, efficient service that can feel dry and impersonal. The location is useful for me because it’s close to my company. São Paulo’s North Zone doesn’t have many good hotels, and this one could have been better, but it seems to get worse each time I stay.
