The food was more western than I expected, and only mediocre. We’d wanted Bhutanese dishes, and when we arrived at night there was very little food left. The staff, though, were extremely courteous and helpful, like people throughout Bhutan. We came in November to see the cranes, and the villa was very close to where they can be spotted. The resort was clean, comfortable, well planned and decorated, and reminded me of a chalet in the cold weather. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were carefully laid out and spotless. Overall, it was an excellent stay.

We slept so well in the peace and quiet, and the rooms stayed warm when it got cold at night. The shower was lovely, too. But the best part was the view from the rooms, whether we sat on the balcony or looked through the big glass windows across the valley. It’s a charming little boutique-style place with friendly staff. We enjoyed the Bhutanese dinner, though the dessert could use a little improvement.

The room and bathroom both had heaters, so we stayed comfortably warm. The resort is near the Crane Center and an easy, short day trek. It’s a new place with excellent service, food and views. Power to the village sometimes cuts out because Gangtey is rural, but it comes back quickly. The staff go the extra mile to keep guests safe and make sure the experience isn’t affected. Going through the village power cuts became part of the trip and made for good memories.

The food options are limited, but what we had was tasty, and the staff were efficient and courteous. Most rooms in the log cabins have lovely views across Phobjika valley, and each cabin has a little sit-out where you can watch the quiet landscape. There are also two large glass-covered common sit-outs, nice places to relax. The hotel is a 15 min walk from the valley entrance, or 5 min using a shortcut. Namkuen Chhokdhen, a small coffee shop worth trying, is a 10 minutes walk away.

The view was incredible, the meals were delicious, and the staff were gracious. My room was spotless and modern. I only wish I’d had time for the spa. Highly recommended!
