The sunset cruise with Lucky was a highlight. He’s a fantastic guide who knows the animals and explains things clearly. It cost 400 Pula, and we saw lots of animals. The next day we booked his six-hour Pan Händle tour for 1000 Pula per person, where we saw hippos and had a lovely lunch along the way. We stayed two nights in River Tent number one, which had a bathtub and outdoor area. The tent was amazing, with plenty of blankets to keep us warm in winter, plus a small fridge, kettle, and good toiletries, including shampoo and conditioner. Breakfast and the three-course dinner were delicious, both with river views. At night we could hear hippos grunting. The staff were friendly and took care of everything from the moment we arrived. The place looks much better in real life than in photos. The surroundings and attention to detail in the tent are special, and having meals during those sunrises and sunsets was a dream. We even got to talk with the farm owner. We were sad to leave after two days and would love to come back.

Right by the water, with a peaceful setting and beautiful surroundings, this is one of the loveliest camps we’ve stayed at. The host was friendly and helpful. The tents are classy and very well furnished, with lots of thoughtful touches, including a hot-water bottle in a knitted cover for chilly nights. Well worth visiting.

Lucky’s boat tour was a highlight and gave us a different view of the beautiful surroundings. The owner’s family were very friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even better. We had an incredible time in the stylish, comfortable glamping tents, and the food was consistently excellent, with a variety of delicious dishes.

We found plenty to do nearby, including a boat safari, a visit to Tsodilo rock art, and a trip to the crocodile farm. The camp is about a kilometer from the main road along a sandy track. Friendly management and staff gave us a warm welcome. With few tents, it felt almost like a private lodge, and the bush camp pays a lot of attention to sustainability. Our group stayed in both forest and river tents. Each had a hot shower and toilet, and showering outside with views over the Okavango floodplains and plants around the sink and drain was fantastic. The tents are stylish and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and we enjoyed dinner on the deck. A fishing owl flew past the terrace after dark, and hippos often called at night. WiFi gave us a good internet connection. We loved this beautiful place for two nights. We can’t think of anything negative except that we had to leave.

The setting is wonderful, on the Okavango floodplain with permanent water in front of camp and views across to the east side. The lodge grounds have an impressive variety of trees, many huge enough to give deep shade in the heat. Tents are built to a high standard and very comfortable, as is the mess area. Staff were professional and friendly, and the food was excellent. We also had a great time on the water. Dammen and Hettie are wonderful hosts who made us feel completely welcome. They’ve created a special camp and clearly love and care for it. A friend who knows the area and other lodges had strongly recommended Askiesbos, but even he hadn’t done it justice. It was better than he described in every way. We visited in February and had a great experience, which I hope to repeat before long.
