Sapphire Beach Resort

The Gem restaurant had some of the best food I ate on the island, and I highly recommend it. The pools are on the small side but adequate. This place is quite a distance north of San Pedro, so if it were closer to town I’d recommend it outright. But if you want to disconnect and be somewhere quiet and isolated, it’s ideal. It’s a good option for a VRBO or Airbnb style stay that still includes service.

We picked Sapphire Beach hotel because it’s well north on the east side of Ambergris Caye, away from the bustle of San Pedro. We stayed for a full week at the end of tourist season, when there were only nine guests, including us two. It was quiet and comfortable, and we’d absolutely return. The rooms aren’t luxurious, but ours was very clean and in good condition, with a kitchen and living room. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the shower was great. Both air conditioners, in the main area and bedroom, worked extremely well. The pools and grounds were cleaned and raked each day. Breakfast at the in-house restaurant was delicious, with very generous portions. The service was extraordinary. They quickly took care of everything we asked for, from prompt laundry and massages in our room to dinner reservations. They arranged a golf cart rental delivered right to the hotel, and complimentary pickups from area restaurants so we didn’t have to drive back at night. If you want a peaceful retreat by the sea rather than the hustle and bustle of San Pedro, we highly recommend Sapphire Beach Resort.

It’s a long way from the mainland, but the trip was worth it. The ocean views are amazing, and security is there around the clock. The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to help, including with excursions, transportation, and my luggage. I have no complaints about the resort. The roads are a bit rocky, but that’s nothing to do with the place. I’d stay again, 10/10.

We almost skipped Sapphire after reading reviews, but we’re glad we gave it a chance. We’re from the Appalachian mountains and like getting away from the city, and bumpy roads don’t bother us. The resort was well kept, felt safe, and had wonderful staff who went above and beyond. Miss Vicki took great care of us at Gem's restaurant. Phil helped us several times, especially with our AC on the first night. Sylvino (I'm not sure of spelling) was incredibly nice and great to talk to about things to do. WiFi cut us up several coconuts for fresh coconut water, and he was one of the happiest guys! Wilbur waited on us a few times too. The people who live at the resort full time were also so nice. It’s quite a drive from San Pedro, but worth it. One evening at sunset we used the on-site paddle boards, and staff helped carry them to the water’s edge. White Sands Dive Shop picked us up at the Sapphire dock for our tour. Highly recommend them, and hope you get Eric as your guide! 😁 Everything was just what we hoped for and more. My friend took the sunrise picture attached, and yes, it really looked like that. Gorgeous place!!!
