The young staff were charming and helpful, and we loved being in the original part of town, away from the noisy, ugly "strip" farther out. Across from the hotel is a row of somewhat upmarket stores, including a micro brewery. Brian Mulroney's statue is just steps away, as is a fabulous statue of the man who founded Baie Comeau to provide paper for major newspapers in Chicago and New York, New York. Clever guy. There's no elevator, but the original staircase has relatively few steps between floors. Inside, our second-floor room was such a treat after the plain-looking exterior. It felt like two rooms, so there was loads of space, and the lovely old furniture was all in excellent shape. The "sleigh" bed was fabulous and very comfortable. There were also three new modern heaters, new windows and screens, new air-conditioning, and a new bathroom. What more could we have wanted? We couldn't believe our luck finding this hotel.

Good stay, right in the heart of baie comeau. The rooms are rustic and surprisingly spacious, though the floors creak a bit. I couldn't find an elevator and took the stairs up to the 3rd floor, but it wasn't a big deal.

The room was clean, comfortable and nice, in this old historic hotel that's been partly renovated. Parking was scarce, so we left the car on the street. There isn't an elevator either. At check-in, staff spoke only french, which made things a little difficult.

The rooms are fine, a little quirky, with good facilities, and the location is very good. But the receptionist seemed uninterested and wasn't helpful. That poor reception service put us off trying the restaurant or using other hotel services. A smile when you arrive is an easy, basic thing anyone can offer.

St-Pancrace micro across the street is nice, but the reception service was poor, unfriendly and unhelpful. A smile wouldn't hurt. Our basement room wasn't finished. It smelled of fresh paint and plaster, an outlet hadn't been plugged in yet, the air conditioning didn't work, and the room wasn't clean.
