The Ash Grove Inn

I’ve been coming here for a few years, but the restaurant’s quality has really slipped. The service is still friendly and nice, but the portions have shrunk. The $19 taco salad used to be large and served in a tortilla bowl; now it comes in a small soup bowl, and even the schnitzel is smaller. I can’t justify the value anymore. There are better food options in Barry’s Bay, so I’ll go elsewhere.

We went for dinner as a group of eight. Service was quick and friendly. I tried the smoked meat sandwich from a friend’s plate and really liked it, especially the mustard, so I’d probably order that next time. I had the lumberjack burger with caramelized Onions and onion rings on the side, and would happily get it again. My wife’s chicken souvlaki was pretty good too, though she felt the chicken could use a bit more seasoning. It was cooked very well.

Jan 24, 2026.. I went for dinner with my wife. I ordered chicken quesadilas and she had the schnitzel. The food was half lukewarm, oversalted, and not worth the $60+ we spent on a meal we only partly finished. I can heat my own food better in a microwave. I’m local, not from the GTA, in case someone wants to chirp my review, and I have the receipt to back up how poor the visit was. The staff were very friendly and the place seemed clean, but the food left a lot to be desired. I don’t plan to return or recommend it.

The rooms at Ash Grove Inn were spacious and clean enough, but felt dated and not especially comfortable or well maintained. The TV wasn’t working properly, which was disappointing. Service was fine and there were no major problems, though nothing made the stay feel special. It was just okay. It could work for a short visit, but I wouldn’t pick it again unless there were no better options.
