We stayed one night on May 30, and the price was still much lower than in high season. For that rate, the five stars make sense. Our Beachouse2 apartment was spectacular, right on the beach, with views of the beach and lake from the living room and patio. Upstairs, the bedroom faced the other way and looked out over a beautiful marsh. Toiletries, fresh towels, coffee pods, and other basics were provided. The bed and pillows were super comfortable, with clean, fresh sheets. Our room was tidy, clean, and showed no damage or signs of age like some other reviews mentioned. Check-in and checkout were easy. At high-season rates, you'd be paying five-star hotel prices for a place that feels more like two or three stars. The amenities are nice but a bit dated, and it doesn't feel like a five-star hotel stay. If you don't mind paying more, especially for the beach houses, I still recommend it.

After a four-hour drive, I arrived to find no room available, despite having a confirmed booking through the Choice Hotels website. I was left stranded. The receptionist became confrontational when I asked for help, and neither she nor the manager made a meaningful effort to find me another place to stay. The manager later acknowledged that at least seven other guests had the same problem that day, so this seemed like a serious operational failure, not an isolated mistake. The hotel offered no useful support, transportation, relocation, or even a sincere apology. I found another hotel myself, about 30 minutes away. Overbooking happens, but how staff handle it matters. Here I encountered indifference, no accountability, and no customer care. I'd urge travelers to think carefully before booking, especially if arriving late or after a long journey. A confirmed reservation didn't guarantee me a room.

I lived on this island as a kid, and The Tubs was a great place back then: nostalgic, warm, friendly, and cozy. It's changed hands over the years, but it's still part of the island, and I hope that stays true. The view is amazing, and the people there are always friendly and patient. To the current owner, keep up the good work and make sure we always have a nice place to eat or sleep.

The view from the restaurant is lovely, though the menu wording could use work, especially by big-city standards. The restaurant charged four-star prices, and I strongly suspected the “Thai chilli” sauce was Sriracha. That suited me, since I'm not much for spicy food. At the resort, the rooms are spacious, a welcome change from cramped city rooms, and the outdoor space is beautiful and family-friendly. Hotel guests get a private beach, and I liked the screened eating areas. Daily turndown service was the default, which makes sense for a family-focused resort. Some finishes look dated, though I noticed the toilets have a low-flow option. The Wi-Fi was decent. The rollaway mattress needs refreshing: I sank right through it. The sofa bed was a little better.

A relaxing, convenient stay, with downtown Picton less than 14 minutes away. That puts you near the LCBO, Metro, McDonald’s, Subway, Tim Hortons, Bulk Barn, and Dollarama. The resort has charming clusters of buildings and a real nature feel. Our room was spacious, spotless, and well equipped, with a microwave, mini-fridge, jacuzzi, electric fireplace, and heated bathroom. The beds were comfortable, but we could hear some floor squeaking from upstairs, and the door curtains could be thicker to keep outside light out. Ask for a Beach House unit if you want to be right by the lake. I'd definitely recommend it.
