We’re already planning to add this to our yearly trip from California, and wish we lived closer so we could come more often. After many stays over the past 30 years, we were excited to return in September after the extensive renovation. It’s stunning. The lodge still has its original footprint, iconic roof, and beautiful fireplaces, but now has 17 spacious guest rooms with elegant furnishings and modern bathrooms. New windows mean no more rattling, and the reinforced walls are quite soundproof. The main floor has comfortable, elegant places to sit and a beautiful bar. The staff are fantastic, and the Chef, Sous Chef, and crew may be the best in all of the Rockies. Kudos to the ownership, management, and staff for creating such a treasure on exquisite Bow Lake, away from the crowds. It’s a perfect getaway on the spectacular Icefields Parkway.

Bow Lake is the real draw here. We walked to the falls in light snow and had the trail almost to ourselves. I can definitely see myself coming back. The lodge has been restored with a lot of taste, and feels like a world class mountain lodge, with luxurious interiors that still feel natural thanks to all the wood and earthy colours. The staff are committed to making your stay special and know what a special place the Lodge is.
We stopped for lunch beside a gorgeous lake with mountains all around, and the place exceeded our expectations. The cafe was amazing, with fresh daily food that was beautifully presented. The banana bread, healthy sandwiches, and homemade ice cream sandwiches were all delicious, and I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality. The gallery gift shop had stunning local art too. Sophia was really nice to talk to. Treat yourself to this pitstop!
Bow Lake is beautiful, so there are worse places for a van to break down. Last summer, my gf and I were visiting the area when ours stopped on the road. There was no service reception to call insurance, but the staff kindly let us use their phone and offered food and a blanket while we waited for the tow truck. We really appreciated everyone’s help. Thanks again to all who helped us!
The food was delicious, with flavours and creativity that surprised us, and a packed lunch for hiking was included. Staff were awesome, welcoming, helpful, and attentive. We left refreshed and well fed, impressed by the workmanship and the interesting people we met. The lodge opened this season and closes in the fall, with bookings for next year. It’s a totally new business with new owners who have a lot of expertise, and it’s worth your time. The lodge and rooms have been renovated, with new electrical, bathrooms, and heating. Everything was gutted, new walls added, and our room was spacious and welcoming, with a nice large bathroom. There are impressive areas for socializing, including a living room with lots of places to sit and a bar. The large dining room has a high ceiling, lake views, and a warm fireplace. You can drive in, then walk the main hike along the lake through changing environments. There are plenty more hikes nearby on the icefields parkway. There’s no WiFi, though you can drive a short distance up the highway to get connected. Better to leave it behind while you’re here. This beautiful area is near Lake Louise but away from the crowds, with an easy drive up and a walk surrounded by magnificent mountains. Restore your soul.
