Along River Ridge

The listing calls this a “4-star hotel” on Google, which I find completely misleading. To me, it’s a shared house, nowhere near even a 2-star hotel, and whoever gave it four stars probably hasn’t seen what a real 4-star property looks like. My room was small, about 3x3 meters, with very thin walls and a dog walking around upstairs. The kitchen was shared with other guests. The bathroom was tiny, around 1x2 meters, seemed built for someone under 160 cm tall, and had sliding doors that wouldn’t lock. I found the stay very uncomfortable.

This place feels magical, and I’m already thinking of coming back again and again. I’m here for the second year in a row, and this time I came with friends and we rented the whole house. It was fabulous. The river view is absolutely amazing. There’s a spacious shared kitchen, pool table, fireplace, lounge area, hot tub, and BBQ. Upstairs, the two rooms have a huge jetted tub and shower, big comfortable beds, and crisp white linens and towels. The three rooms downstairs are smaller but cozy, each with a fridge, TV, and its own bathroom. What else could you ask for? 😍

We usually book a regular hotel, but we’re glad we tried this place. It was quiet and clean, with more space and a nicer setting than chain hotel rooms costing twice as much. Whenever work brings us to Calgary, we’ll plan to stay here. Thanks for a great experience!

We booked the Queen room for one night because of the jacuzzi, hoping for a relaxed New Year’s Eve. The room was clean and spacious, and we liked the fireplace, skylight, steam shower, and jacuzzi. The price was good, but we probably won’t return. There wasn’t enough hot water for the jacuzzi jets or the steam shower. Someone in the king room next door seemed to be competing with us for hot water the whole time. When we turned on the jacuzzi jets, a bunch of stuff came out. The host called it hardened water, but that didn’t seem right, and it made us wonder if the jets were cleaned often enough. The walls in the Queen room are thin, so you can hear everything. The toilet chain came loose and it wouldn’t flush properly, though we fixed it ourselves. We texted the host about all of this and got responses that didn’t feel very sympathetic. It was clear they weren’t going to help. If none of those issues bother you, it’s an excellent stay and I’d highly recommend it.
