The breakfast could use some meat choices, like bacon or sausage. It was mostly grains and cereal. I also enjoyed the pool and hot tub, a nice place to relax. My queen suite was spacious and comfortable, the room was quiet, and I slept well all night. I’d seen the low reviews and was surprised because my experience was great. Most of all, thanks to the male receptionist working around 3:20 pm. Even though I’d checked out and he was due to finish in a couple of minutes, he stayed to meet the Uber driver and hand over the luggage I’d left in storage while I was out. I wish I’d asked his name.

We were only there for one night, which was a shame because the place was so cozy. For the price, the room exceeded my expectations: two queen beds, heating that we really needed in winter, a kitchenette, TV, table and chairs, and a really nice bathroom. Econo Lodge is about a four-minute walk from the railway station and a few stops from the city centre. The location worked well, and the service was excellent. Front desk staff were friendly and even called our room later to check if we needed anything else. I’d definitely recommend it.

As a Choice Privilage member, I felt that my loyalty meant nothing here. I understand a hotel doesn’t have to upgrade a Diamond member, but I was staying eight nights, there was barely anyone around since Calgary was quiet in winter, and the room I wanted cost only $6 more per night. This seemed like a good time to look after a loyal customer. For $48, they lost me. The staff member refused the upgrade, saying there had been complaints about a bad smell in that room. Are customers really supposed to be told the rooms smell bad? He kept lying to deny my request. Sorry if I sound privileged, but that’s the name of the loyalty program.

I’ve stayed here three times since 2022, in the tower, the front motel, and the motel building at the back. I’m not looking for gimmicks, just a quiet place to sleep with the basics. In winter I usually get a room for $90 a night, and the location is perfect for me. It’s clean and comfortable, though not new or sparkling, and I’ve never had an issue. I’ll keep staying here. I wish more people would, so the beds could get broken in a bit. Every mattress I’ve had was pretty hard, but I still slept well. Thanks to the cleaning team and the very kind front desk staff!
