Outpost Motel & Kitchenette Suites

We were lucky to find this family-run place. The room was very clean, and the beds felt especially comfortable after our long drive. The workers made us feel at home throughout check-in, starting with a friendly welcome at the main office. The convenience store is right inside the office, which was so helpful after being on the road. It was a really nice stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

We booked three nights at Outpost motel but left after two. The rooms smelled, looked old and rusty, and had dirt and stains everywhere. There was no closet or hangers, no table or chairs to eat at, and no proper place to sit. The sofa looked very old and dirty and wasn’t comfortable. There was no room cleaning service. Both days we returned to find the rooms left open, and insects on the walls kept my kids from sleeping. One night, an animal got into the room and spread around and ate the food garbage because the main door lock wasn’t working properly. If you’re visiting Waterton, I think this is a terrible stay for the price. You can find much better rooms just around the corner for the same amount. After seeing this review, the owner will probably post all sorts of stories, as he usually copy-pastes replies to negative reviews. He’ll say the customer was bad, threatened them, damaged things, or stayed one night instead of three. Whatever the owner says, the fact remains that this is a very bad place to stay. All his customers can’t be wrong. Searching for this motel turns up 90% negative reviews.

They said the kitchenette suite was a free upgrade for the night because the cleaning staff had quit without notice. That left me wondering what I would’ve been given if the room I originally booked had been ready. At checkout, make sure the owner does a walkthrough. Two days later, my card was charged for an open snack bar, even though we’d only taken two pops and paid for them. The owner is belligerent and seems to think it’s fine to bill customers for untouched items. Maybe the snack bar should be removed, since it leaves an opening to rip clients off. This all happened because we posted the honest truth. If we’d paid the regular price for the cheapest room, room 106, I’m sure the shock would’ve given me a stroke.

We just needed a cheap, simple place to sleep, shower, and head on to our next destination, and this was the best low-rate option we found. The price was reasonable for a comfortable night’s sleep. We liked the owner and how accommodating he was, even though we arrived so late. We didn’t care about the crappy continental breakfasts and lucrative at previous hotels.
