Christina made us feel welcome right away and showed us around the cottage and our room. We had a comfortable ground-floor room with access to the garden, and toiletries and a hairdryer were already there. She cooked a lovely breakfast and was happy to suggest places to visit. It’s a beautiful, quaint cottage with a homey feel, and we really enjoyed staying there. I’d recommend it.

Christina was a wonderful host, and the accommodation was clean and felt personal. I stopped for one night while passing through and had a lovely time. Being close to the sea was a great way to unwind after a day of driving, and the town itself is charming. A small, lovingly run bed and breakfast.

We came for our anniversary and loved the Cottage & Castle, a very cute Victorian home with interesting things tucked into every corner. It’s in a great spot, only 75 meters from the beach and a nice Thai place. We were glad to support an indigenous business. Next time, we’d like to book the castle suite and stay for a couple of nights.

The host was lovely and gave us privacy while making an effort to accommodate what we wanted for breakfast. The house is an older Victorian home, decorated with lots of interesting things to look around at. From there, it’s an easy walk to a great Thai restaurant, coffee shops, and old town. A quiet, beautiful place in Chemainus for a romantic stay or otherwise, and I’d recommend A Cottage & Castle Bed & Breakfast.

Our stay in Chemainus ended with an eviction that was sudden and very upsetting. We had only met up briefly with fellow travelers in the early evening before going to a nearby dinner reservation. It wasn’t a party or a disruptive gathering, and we would have followed any rules if they’d been clearly shared beforehand. The host said I had signed a document limiting the number of people allowed on the property, but I couldn’t access the document itself, only a notice saying one had been signed. I travel often and make a point of checking property rules, and in this case the relevant information either wasn’t presented or wasn’t available for me to review. No one had told us that even brief social visits were limited to two people. There are photos on the host’s Facebook showing a wedding at the property with more than two people present. That made the enforcement of the supposed rules seem inconsistent and left me questioning the reason for our eviction. Given the lack of transparency, the whole experience felt unjust as well as distressing.
