The part that made Cedar Haven stand out for us was the genuine hospitality and country charm of the good-hearted owners. We’ve stayed in thousands of hotels, cabins, and resorts across Canada and the US, but this was one of the most relaxing places we’ve ever been. We left feeling unwound and recharged, and it’s become one of our new favourites. Our cabin had a lovely queen bed, a full bathroom and kitchen, and a roomy den, with comfort that would suit honeymooners or anyone wanting an easy, restful getaway. Outside, the all-season canvas tent had a plush bed, a coffee caddy, and comfy Adirondack chairs. There’s also a sauna, fire pit, and BBQ. The greenspace is a real highlight, a lovely spot to take in the starry sky, with a true Dark Sky preserve right at the doorstep of Wells Gray Provincial Paradise. Thanks, Meira, for such a wonderful stay. We’ll be back as soon as we can. If you’re after a country escape with wildlife and nature, and want to support good people, this is a great place to come.

It feels like a little piece of heaven. The surroundings are wonderfully quiet and relaxing, and the staff are friendly and ready to help. You can tell they pay attention to the details and really care about you and your trip.

Tent No. 4, with the red chairs, was a stunning place to spend the night. Rain pattering on the roof brought back memories of our old camping holidays, except this time we stayed completely dry. We even had hummingbird visitors, so keep an eye out for those tiny beauties. It’s wonderfully quiet out in the middle of nowhere, tucked among beautiful cedar trees, and we got a great rest. Many thanks to the team who run and look after the resort. We won’t forget our night out in the bush, and even our bikes had a nice spot to sleep.

We stayed two nights and would have booked longer if we ever come back to the area, though have you seen the cost of flights? Clearwater itself doesn’t offer much beyond food and supplies, but it was more than fine, and there are plenty of waterfalls to visit during the day. This was easily the best stop on our 2.5-week drive from Vancouver to Calgary. The rooms were clean and really comfortable. We visited at the start of fall, when nights were chilly, but the heating, rugs, and electric blankets kept us warm and we slept so well. The showers were warm and felt luxurious too. In the evening, cooking on the grill and relaxing on the big lawn was lovely. The outdoor kitchen was fully equipped. Just don’t bring too much perishable food, since it needs to stay in your car or go in the fridge to avoid attracting bears.

Finding the resort takes some care, since it really is out in the woods, so follow the directions. We stayed two nights in a cabin and loved the quiet, peaceful forest setting. The cabin had what we needed: a kitchenette, bathroom, comfortable double bed, and room for luggage. There’s a fireplace and a shared grill in the garden just outside the cabins. There’s no restaurant or food service on site, but supermarkets and several restaurants are about a 10-minute drive away. Don’t miss Hop n Hog Tap and Smokehouse, the food was delicious. We’d happily recommend this place and would love to return.
