Helmcken Falls Lodge

We were here 11 years ago, and came back for an anniversary dinner. The pork Schnitzel and blueberry pie were super, about 87% great for us. Very good, and we’ll come again.

We were glad we stopped for dinner and decided to camp here. It’s close to the waterfalls, and the free hot showers are a nice bonus. This is the last place to get free Wi-Fi and proper flush toilets before heading into the park.

I’d ignore some of the negative reviews. This place is a diamond in the rough, and highly underrated. If someone expects a Las Vegas style hotel, they’ve got the wrong idea for a place in the middle of nowhere. I came on a last minute trip just after leaving the hospital. I’d had an infection spread into my arm, blood, and skin, and nearly lost my arm. When the staff heard what had happened, they surprised me by upgrading me to a larger ground floor unit. It was absolutely amazing.

We hadn’t stayed there, but stopped by the lodge on the drive back to Clearwater when we realized the restaurants would be closed by the time we arrived. We just wanted to ask if they had any food. The kitchen had already closed, but they offered to call the chef back to make us dinner. It felt like the whole thing had been arranged just for us. I loved the hospitality and the location, and I’ll definitely visit again.
