Hew & Draw Hotel

The staff at the upbeat Boomstick restaurant work hard, and the complimentary breakfast is a full meal. The Hew and Draw is clean, friendly, and centrally located, with plenty going on but no excessive noise. At $270 per night including taxes, though, it may not suit a lot of budgets. I’d have appreciated more comfortable seating in the rooms, and I’d prefer unscented bathroom products. Congratulations to the owners, management and staff of the Hew and Draw, you make Corner Brook shine.

I’ve stayed at Hew & Draw twice a year for three years, and every visit has been exceptional. The food and drinks are local, delicious, and always changing, and the staff are very helpful. It’s spotless, with a modern, contemporary style that still pays tribute to Newfoundland. There are little surprises all through the place. Love it!

The room was charged in US dollars and was way, way overpriced. For that kind of rate, the front desk service should have been much better. The staff didn’t even seem to smile or say hello. My fish and fries were poor too, the fries had been cooked again and were hard as rocks, while the fish was undercooked. They’re aiming for professional, but have a lot to learn. Sorry to be blunt, but I won’t go back.

The details in the room really stood out: robes, chocolates on the pillows, nice local East Coast Glow toiletries, and even a cute monogram stamped on the toilet roll. The room itself was spotless and modern, with Roku TV, quiet central HVAC, a heated bathroom floor, and a glass door mini-fridge stocked with their Boomstick beer and Sanpelligrino drinks as incidental charges. I was also impressed by the shared spaces. A big Blue Jay's game was projected in the main lobby common area so guests could gather and watch together, and there was a yoga class in that same space the next morning.
