Motel 6 – Cornwall, ON

The room surprised me in a good way. It was clean and updated, the bed was clean and more comfortable than I expected, and it smelled like fresh laundry, not weed or heavy dollar-store air freshener. The fridge and microwave were handy, and I liked the door beeps because they let me know I was secure. Staff were warm, quick, friendly, and informative. They even gave me a number and said to call if I needed anything. I’d stay again. The hallways were a different story. There was a weed smell there, though thankfully not in my room. I know it’s legal, but not everyone likes it, and I’d address it with guests. I’d bet it’s coming from someone staying longer term rather than a one or two night guest. The unplowed parking lot was also a pain to walk across, just an observation and not something that affected my rating. Walking down the halls, I expected a Motel 6 experience, but was pleasantly surprised once I got inside the room. It could use some art, though, since the dull grey walls gave it a bit of a prison-cell feel.

For the price, I can’t ask for much more. The bed was firm but comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was fast enough to stream a movie. I also really like the updated look at this Motel 6. Having no carpet is a big plus for me, it feels much cleaner.

I usually leave great reviews, but this stay made me sick to my stomach. I really don’t want anyone else to deal with it. Don’t stay here, I’d rather sleep in my truck. The room was disgusting and smelly, with no towels, soap, or shampoo. Staff were basically nowhere to be found. I called an hour ahead, and another couple arrived around the same time as me, but the man said to be the manager wasn’t on site. I waited about 35 minutes before anyone showed up. After I got into my room, he disappeared from the property again, which felt especially unsafe since the doors don’t lock well. The next night, after I’d checked out, the property manager called asking for my credit card details to authorize a payment for someone else’s room. It was extremely disturbing and felt like a phishing scam. I’m not sure how else to put it. I also had to argue with the property about returning my deposit to my credit card three days late. It still doesn’t show as pending or refunded, just as money withdrawn from my card.

When I travel to Cornwall for medical appointments, this is always the Motel 6 I choose. Manager Shah knows when I’m coming and has the TV turned on before I check in, so I can sit down and relax right away. Those thoughtful little gestures make the place feel more personal than an ordinary motel. Travel can be stressful when you’re a bit older, and that service makes a difference. It’s clean and quiet too. Highly recommend.
