Hearthstone Inn Boutique Hotel Halifax - Dartmouth

In the first few minutes in my room, I found keys from the last guest on a shelf. When I looked around more, the first cupboard I opened held two empty liquor bottles and an empty sandwich container. The front desk seemed overly complacent, which didn’t surprise me after seeing how the cleaning staff had handled the room. I later called about a small item I’d left behind and asked if they could mail it in an envelope since I wasn’t from the area. They said they could put it in a box for me to pick up.

The location was handy for shopping and eating in Dartmouth, and the rooms were clean. But parking is extremely limited, so if the few spaces are full, you have to park on the road. The outlets need updating because chargers wouldn’t stay plugged in. Paint was peeling in the room, and the lights over the vanity were out. A bit of lipstick on a pig in some areas.

The service was the main problem. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8:00 AM, which is already late, and when I arrived at 8:17 AM they told me I’d have to wait another 15 minutes. Avoid this place if you’re on a tight schedule or have early plans. The room was clean, but the stay was still disappointing. Wi-Fi kept cutting out and made it hard to get anything done.

The room was nice, clean, and in a good location, but the elevator was broken for the two days I was there. With a bad knee and two bags, carrying everything up a flight of stairs was difficult. I complained and nobody offered to help. When I was leaving, a man saw me struggling and carried my bags to my vehicle. He said he was the maintenance man, and I really appreciated his help. I’d stayed here a few times before and booked expecting an elevator. At minimum, they should have called to say it was out. Since they didn’t, they should have offered help. I’ll unfortunately think twice about staying again.
