The reception staff were pleasant when we arrived for our Valentine’s Day weekend, having booked a jacuzzi room. But the toilet took about four flushes to clear, and plunging it didn’t help. The floor also had severe water damage, although the room itself was clean. The front desk said the maintenance guy wasn’t there on weekends, which isn’t acceptable. They offered to move us to a downgraded queen room without a jacuzzi, but that was the main reason we booked, especially for a relaxing Valentine’s stay, so we declined and stayed with the broken toilet. At checkout they offered only $20 per night off. That doesn’t seem like an appropriate refund for an essential amenity. They need to replace the flooring and fix the toilet before renting out the room. This left a bad impression, and we’re strongly considering not returning.

Karen at the front desk welcomed me and helped find restaurants that were still open when I arrived close to midnight. The security man Avikashpreet also helped this country woman feel safe in the “big city.” This older hotel is right in the heart of the city, with friendly staff, and it’s clean and comfortable. The restaurant has a nostalgic, homey feel, and the meal was good value. Fantastic service.

The rooms were clean, but ours was set to 32°C and we couldn't get the thermostat to work. There were loud people in the hallways, and taking the dogs out meant risking an encounter with someone using drugs or harassing us. We were met by hostile people bothering the front desk and then us. The desk staff made excuses for the harassment. I couldn't tell if those people were staying at the hotel, but they seemed very intoxicated, and there was apparent drug use near the lobby and in the parking lot.

The hotel feels old and run down, and we had problems throughout our stay. On the first day, the shower broke and water went everywhere. The next day, old door hardware left us locked out of our room for 45 minutes after a long day. The jacuzzi tub was awkward and so loud we couldn't use it. The TV was tiny and mostly showed sports, which wasn't great for relaxing. With only about 20 cars in the lot, I don't understand why a large, loud group was put beside an occupied room. When we complained, nobody offered to move us or compensate us.
