The house and garden are beautiful, but what keeps me coming back with a friend year after year is how warmly Carrie and Malcolm welcome us. They’re such friendly hosts, and staying here is always a pleasure. Highly recommend it!

The breakfasts were the highlight for us. There was something different every day, and on Sundays we got an English breakfast since one of the hosts is from England. My girlfriend and I are definitely not morning people, especially when we travel, but we got up for breakfast every day of our seven-day trip. It was delicious and generous enough that we usually weren’t hungry for lunch until 1 or 2 p.m., even though breakfast was served until 7:30 a.m. We stayed in a cozy, quaint cottage-style room with a local soda and freshly made cookies. At night, a gentle breeze and bright moonlight came through the room, and we were able to relax easily. The location also felt wonderfully secluded. We couldn’t see another house from our window. There are free-range piglets and chickens too, which help use up meal scraps and provide fresh eggs each day. The hosts were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. After breakfast each morning, they asked about everyone’s plans and offered tips, sights to see, and directions. For an extra fee, they also prepare and pack picnics. Ours was so filling we couldn’t finish it until the next day. In the shared living room, there’s a big DVD collection, Prime and Netflix, plus a Keurig with coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. This was our first bed and breakfast, and it was magical. We’ve set our expectations so high now that we’re not sure another B&B will match our stay at Briarcliffe Inn.

It seems like it must be a lovely, scenic place, but unfortunately the female owner is incredibly rude to anyone who isn’t driving down her lane to stay at her B&B.

The couple made us feel very welcome, and the food was great. It’s in a fantastic location too. Highly recommend.
