The place could be so much better with proper upkeep. My room was cold and felt like someone’s abandoned attic, with junk on the balcony and a crib. Old plastic curtains had been thrown over the window. The hallway light was broken and kept switching on and off every minute. A noisy gas generator made it impossible to enjoy sitting outside. Even though it was cold, they didn’t turn on the fireplace until 10 pm, just as we were going to bed. I felt like a squatter in an abandoned house.

The location was great and the service was too. Unfortunately, there was a generator running outside my window. It was fairly loud and kept me from sleeping. I guess they didn’t have an extension cord to move it closer to the river.

We loved the peaceful feel of this quiet, rustic lodge and its cabins. The grounds are spacious, with the river running through the valley and mountains behind. There’s a big porch, firepits, and a BBQ, and we caught a great sunset. The WiFi works well too. It’s remote, down 14km of gravel road, but we loved the atmosphere.

The staff were so friendly and helped me organize my birthday, offering some really cool options. I’m incredibly grateful for everything they did to make my 25th birthday so special. My family and I love nature, and the view, fresh air, and all the greenery were just wow. The accommodation was incredibly comfortable, and I felt like a princess. It was amazing. Natalie, the manager, was friendly and took time to tell us why they bought the place and what they hope to do with it. I liked that. We came during the height of summer tourist season, and everywhere else we looked between Golden and Banff cost a lot more. The room rate was high for such basic accommodation, but the rates and lodge description are clearly listed on the website, and the price made sense to me. I’m pleased with my stay and still here as I write this. The porch has a phenomenal view of the Rockies. There are lots of mosquitoes outdoors, but none got into our room through the screened window. The lodge is rustic, with small, basic but cozy rooms and beds only. Bathrooms are shared, so cleanliness depends partly on the other guests, though staff, mostly the owner’s family, take care of cleaning and repairs the next day. No meals are served unless arranged in advance, with a separate fee per person. We booked breakfast, and it was hearty, flavorful, and healthy. Keep your expectations in line with the basics, stay open-minded, and enjoy the view.
