Glacier Mountaineer Lodge

The location is the one good thing about this hotel. We had terrible customer service and so many booking mistakes. The place feels run down and sad as soon as you walk in, with nothing cozy about it. For $320 a night, I'd expect much better. The room was worse than hostels I've stayed in and extremely overpriced. There wasn't a proper duvet cover, just two sheets between the duvet, the wall paint was peeling, and the TV was tiny. We stayed multiple nights but only got coffee for one night. The elevator was broken, so we had to climb three sets of stairs to our room. In the fitness center, almost everything was broken, including the sauna and water fountain. I'd stay in Golden and drive up to the resort instead.

The staff's unhelpful, insincere manner was what made this stay so bad, and it really affected our time at Kicking Horse. They seemed to have a ready excuse for every request, and every inquiry got a no. We asked for a late checkout on New Year's Day and were immediately refused, without anyone asking what time might work. Even 30 minutes or an hour would have helped, especially with the elevator broken and no ski locker, which meant repeated walks with our gear to the far end of the building. Nobody explained the ski lockers at check-in. We found out the next morning that equipment wasn't allowed in the rooms, lockers were limited and first come, first served, and none were available for us. We could leave our gear unsecured or take it back to the vehicle. This wasn't explained anywhere until we asked. The elevator was broken for our entire stay, so we had to carry 150 pounds of luggage up several flights of stairs and along the hallways. There was no daily turndown service either. Apparently, if you ask, they'll drop a bag of linens and towels at your room. Our room had no soap or shampoo when we arrived. We asked for refills the next morning, but when we got back at 3pm they still hadn't arrived. After calling the desk, it took another hour. There were also stains on the comforters, which was gross. Definitely don't recommend it. The posted photos can be very misleading.

The hotel was so dark, with only some of the lights switched on. The vending machines were running but completely empty, and there's no AC, so I wouldn't find it comfortable unless it was winter. I definitely wouldn't stay again. At a $300 nightly rate, I hadn't expected a bed without a fitted sheet or a duvet without a cover, but that's what we got. Both the flat sheet and duvet were stained. The hotel wasn't clean: there were fingerprints and handprints on the windows, dirty cabinets, and a shower curtain that was half yellow with stains and looked very old and unwashed.

The stay was comfortable overall, but a few things were wrong. We didn't get any housekeeping during our four nights, and the bedsheets, duvet, and towels were stained. The hood fan wasn't working either.
