Comfort Inn

Breakfast was good, and the room itself was nice. But after our first night, nobody made the beds or cleaned the bathroom. They said the do not disturb sign had been up during the day, but it hadn’t.

We’ve been coming to this hotel on and off for over 20 years, but this Valentine trip was badly ruined. The snowbank blocked access to our drive-up room, so we were moved. The narrow sidewalk was solid ice, and the hallway entrance wasn’t a workable alternative because renovations there brought a strong wet plaster smell. With my C.O.P.D., that felt unhealthy and inappropriate. We cancelled our reservation and couldn’t find another suitable pet-friendly room in Halifax, so we had to book 90 km away. Drive-up rooms shouldn’t be rented in winter, and the hotel shouldn’t be open during heavy renovations. I have photos documenting what happened.

The views are magnificent, with boats moving along and the train passing by. It’s centrally located near the highway, an easy drive downtown, and there’s a nearby bus stop for anyone who’d rather not drive into Halifax. The rooms are dated and only mostly clean. I noticed wall stains, hair in the shower, and marks on the mattress pad.

The waterfront view is nice, and Halifax is only about a 20-minute drive away. The rooms look quite modern, and the free breakfast was pretty good. Otherwise, it’s about what I’d expect from a two-star hotel.
