We'd been on the road for two weeks when we stayed at High Hopes, and the one positive thing I can say is that it made us glad to be heading home. I chose High Hopes for the lovely terrace overlooking nature, but the busy railway right below it wasn't mentioned. About 50 freight trains a day pass through Hope, BC, directly below the Whistler Suite at High Hopes, and some are two and a half miles long. The ear plugs didn't let us hear the birds, read peacefully, or even talk without shouting over the trains. On our first day, the heating was stuck on permanently. With the door closed to block the train noise, it felt like sleeping in an oven while the air con fought the underfloor heating. We were also locked out on the first night, at about 10:00, because Pauline had forgotten to give us a key and didn't hear the doorbell. We thought nobody was in. Her excuse about seeing our car doesn't hold up, since she gave me the name of the taxi we'd taken. Some reviews praise the breakfast, but we found it barely edible. If you stay at High Hopes, choose the "continental" option. My cooked breakfast was hard eggs and cheap sausage. I did change breakfasts, so the records are wrong. And, as a British person, I know tea is made by pouring boiling water over the leaves. About the wine, you offer and sell home-brewed wine to customers illegally and require cash because the service is illegal. You didn't add it to the bill or ask for payment until now, so that's your problem. Did we enjoy it? It offered some relief from the intense heat in our room. That wouldn't have happened if you'd hired a professional to replace the thermostat instead of your handyman friend, who clearly didn't know what he was doing. Apologies don't make up for locking us out.

The house is beautiful, and the view from the hill is spectacular. Pauline greeted us and was absolutely lovely. I stayed in the honeymoon suite, which felt so luxurious. Stay here if you want to feel like a queen!

The owner asked us to take off our shoes, but there were no slippers, so we had to walk around in socks. Other visitors wore their shoes inside while we were there, and we felt uncomfortable with the owner's negative gossip about previous customers. The room was small.

We booked the whistler Suite and Eagle Nest suite a year ahead for a wedding in Hope this past weekend, and meeting Pauline on Saturday was lovely. Her private suite was clean and gorgeous, with amazing amenities. We especially enjoyed the patio and its view across Hope, the mountains, and the valley. Breakfast was delicious, too. The venue was nice and close for us. Everything from booking through the stay felt welcoming, and it made for a wonderful visit. A perfect spot for a getaway or an evening function.

Pauline was a lovely hostess, and we were impressed by the house and our room. The view was amazing, and she was thoughtful throughout our stay. We went with the hot breakfast and loved it, it was perfect. We'd recommend High Hopes Bed and Breakfast and hope to stay again. Thanks so much, Pauline! The Silvas'
