Econolodge Huntsville

Clean room, comfortable bed and really nice sheets. Breakfast was simple: toast, frozen waffles, muffins, cereal, coffee, tea and orange juice. Pretty much what you’d expect at a motel.

My partner woke up with bed bug bites all over him the morning we left. I was completely horrified. That came after an awful night in a room that clearly hadn’t been cleaned. We’d found a large dried blood stain on the bed pillows, facing the front of the room, plus a box of condoms and used napkins in the nightstand drawer when we looked for the TV remote. We told the staff. They replaced the pillow and took the items away, but didn’t apologize or seem surprised or concerned, and didn’t offer another room. It felt like they were blaming us. The reception staff had been friendly at check-in, but after that things went downhill. We only had one night in Huntsville with family, and affordable options were limited, so we stayed at the Econolodge despite paying $540 for two rooms. We decided to tough it out, which was a huge mistake. I didn’t expect fancy amenities or furniture, but I did expect a clean room and basic hospitality. We got neither. Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Stay far away.

We arrived after midnight and couldn’t find anywhere else, so we had no choice but to spend the first night there. We refused to stay the second night, but the hotel wouldn’t refund us because we had booked through Booking. We contacted Booking and still haven’t gotten a solution. We paid over 800 CAD for a stay that turned out to be one of our worst travel experiences. The place was extremely dirty and overpriced, nothing like we expected. There was a strong, unpleasant smell as soon as we walked in, and the rooms were worse, with hair all over the bathrooms, even on the toilet. The man at the front desk was rude when we called. He offered different rooms, then hung up. The new rooms were a little better, but still dirty. We’ve stayed in actual 4-star hotels for much less and received far better service and cleanliness. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

I love staying here every week. It’s my favorite hotel in town, with the nicest staff and the best prices. The rooms are always clean and fresh, and everything works really well. There’s a huge, beautiful lake and the largest trail I’ve ever seen just a 3-minute walk away. Thank you so much for everything ❤️
