Knotty Pine Cottages

There aren’t any restaurants within walking distance, and there’s no footpath along the Cabot Trail. A small market is about a 5-10 minute drive away, so it’s worth bringing breakfast and drinks with you since shops and places to eat are limited. The breakfast buffet starts at 8am, has limited options, and costs $15 per person. We found it easier to make our own with the microwave, coffee machine, kettle, and the provided tea and coffee. Our cabin was down by the water, renovated, nicely fitted out, and clean. There was a sofa, table and two chairs, fridge, microwave, and dishes and cutlery for two. The balcony had a lovely view and its own BBQ. The neighboring cabins had some space between them, so it was quiet and private. It can get chilly inside, but the heater works well, and there’s a ceiling fan to push the heat down. Shower pressure was average, though the water was hot. Skyline Trail is about 1.5 hours away by car, around 100km, but there are nice hikes closer on this side of the park. Middle Head is a good one. We enjoyed the space, the outlook, and the chance to get some remote time in Cape Breton.

Sunset J was right on the water, and the cabin was the most relaxing, beautiful part of our Nova Scotia stay. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

We paid $300 a night plus tax for an ocean-view cottage, and it felt ridiculously expensive for what we got. The room was tiny, and there wasn’t a separate bathroom, just a curtain, with nowhere to put anything in that area. There was a little couch with stains, and a huge bug appeared out of nowhere and flew into my partner’s head. The restaurant was abysmal, stifling hot and smelling of grease. Ridiculous value. Stay away.

The cabin was such a cute little getaway, and the views were incredible. Check-in was super easy, and the beds were comfortable enough that I slept great. I’d definitely stay again.
