The Hue Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

We’ve stayed here twice now, and it’s been consistent. The rooms are very clean, everything worked, and the staff were cheerful, well trained, and helpful. It’s in a great location, and for the rates, it has all the basics you need. We’ll be back.

I had surgery I hadn’t expected on February 20 and called right afterward to cancel my booking, since I couldn’t make a 10-hour drive after a procedure on my back. I missed the 24-hour cancellation cutoff by just 33 minutes. I’d been scheduled to stay from February 21 to March 2. I’m a Platinum Choice member and had spent more than 26 nights here over the past 2.5 months. I planned to keep staying at the property, but I won’t return after this. Hotel staff said they couldn’t help, that I’d be charged for the full night, and that I had to contact Choice Hotels. Choice Hotels told me cancellation fees are up to the hotel, so being misled was very frustrating. I asked the manager to call me back and followed up twice, but never heard from anyone. For a so-called family-run business, the lack of basic human decency and accountability was disappointing. They showed no interest in service or loyalty. Guests seem to be treated as dollar signs, nothing more. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We were given one room key. The hotel itself looked presentable and the room was clean, but the smell hit us as soon as we walked in. It was like hot garbage and body odor, the worst odor imaginable. We had a vehicle emergency that evening and needed to visit a mechanic the next morning, so we just went to bed. We told the front desk, and the attendant said they’d look into it. When we came back later that day, nobody had followed up. The hotel was clean and affordable, but I won’t stay at The Hue next time I’m in Kamloops.

I was working in the area with a crew of seven, and we stayed at the Hue. The rooms were clean and new, the beds comfortable, and the service was good. It’s centrally located too. I’d stay again and recommend it to others.
